Hi there! My name's Kate.

Verreaux's sifaka

I majored in biological anthropology at George Washington University in Washington, DC and liked studying primates so much that I continued on for even more education as a Master's student (another two years of schooling). I finished my Master's Degree in anthropology at the University of Victoria in BC Canada, where I continued to study primatology.

I originally created this blog to write about my experience in Madagascar, where I studied a species of primate called Verreaux's sifaka, Propithecus verreauxi.

For August and September of 2013, I was in Madagascar, a large island off of the east coast of Africa, observing sifakas and recording their behavior and their diet. This research was funded by the Sigma Xi Grant-in-Aid of Research, the University of Victoria's Graduate Student Travel Grant, and through my advisor, Dr. Lisa Gould.

After receiving encouragement from UVic's Let's Talk Science local coordinator, Anna, I resumed this blog in the summer of 2014 to blog about news and research on primates, ecology, and conservation and other related ideas. I hope this blog can be both entertaining and educational.
